A pleasure to have you Kate. Many thanks for your sharing your session on childhood anxiety with our staff at Waggrakine.

With trauma and anxiety on a constant increase staff resonated strongly with their own students and found many of your shared understandings and strategies to support children of great support.

A valuable PL for all schools, thank you again.

Counselling

I offer counselling, support and guidance for children, young people and adults.

I come from a strength-based approach, and also use ACT – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Sessions go for an hour, and are generally face to face, but online sessions are available.

What is ACT?

"ACT gets its name from one of its core messages: accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves and enriches your life.

The aim of ACT is to maximise human potential for a rich, full and meaningful life. ACT does this by:

a) teaching you psychological skills to deal with your painful thoughts and feelings effectively – in such a way that they have much less impact and influence over you (these are known as mindfulness skills).

b) helping you to clarify what is truly important and meaningful to you – i.e your values – then use that knowledge to guide, inspire and motivate you to change your life for the better." Dr Russ Harris

Mindfulness workshops

Our mindfulness workshops run as a 4-week program in schools and have also been run successfully in workplaces.

What is Mindfulness?

“The awareness that emerges through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment to moment”.  (Dr.  Jon Kabat-Zinn, 2003, Clinical Psychology: Science & Practice, 10, 144-155).

Why Mindfulness?

The research:

For Children:

  • Improved attention

  • Increased compassion (empathy and social skills)

  • Calming (reduced feeling of stress)

  • Better self-regulation
